90% of the people on my friend list from first 2 campaign have already left the game. Some of them tried to come back. But didn't stay long..now they're gone forever. That applies to all the players in game. Best example is Soul Wedding and also those guys from war machine. They came back for maybe a month. But then never see them again.
I think the best explanation is that, life changes not only game changes. People graduate, people go to college, people got new bf/gf, People got babies, People got permanent parent spike, people got new jobs, people got new games, ... etc
I still play gw everyday but definitely as long as early this year. I got time to squeeze in some time for bf2142. But I can tell you that gw is still my no.1 game. It's just that gw is player based. No friends = no fun. That's exactly what happen in Diablo II.

Inconvenient truth, well over 4/5ths of my friends list hasn't logged in for over a year... well, I haven't for two months, but I doubt they came back after a year's siesta. I miss them. :<

same...most of the good people that actually knew a damn in this game quit when factions was released. but, all the anet bashing I do, I really cant consider any other game that is a candidate that would hold my attention for almost 3 years. Complaints you see are just because people DO care about this game, and WANT it to live up to its full ability.

That's a great point. Obviously, even the complainers love something about Guild Wars, or they wouldn't bother with posting...

My alliance has gone from 10 guilds with 80-100 members each down to 7 (the other divisions have been emptied) with 30-80 each. We took a large hit to our activity, and I can't say we get nearly as many recruits as we were. I can easily say the biggest hit was to our PvP divisions, but that can be interpreted in many ways, most not relating to the state of GW in the least.

Primary quests, side quests, dungeons and helping friends a little bit and you are rank 5 for any of those.
Say again, where is the awful grind for armors?

Let's say I've started to take a break from GW ... for un determined duration. And yes, most people I had on my friend list left the game times ago, one even clearly saying he'd even prefer WoW (and now, I don't think he was wrong). GW has turned into a sell-out: no new concepts, just new grind and continuation of a confined gameplay, which now has been confirmed to be final till GW2.

1. A part of the members left the game, leaving me to kick their unused avatars.

I hate to say this, but I am on the same boat. Its not a hate thing or anything bitter. I have had my fun, I have played long enough (since the beginning). I started grinding in GWEN after I beat it and realized that I dont like grinding so much. And I started it and i realized that i have kinda done everything that I personally wanted to do and grinding for my HOM wasn't what I expected.
I will be back when the misison pack is released, thats for sure. But after that.. who knows.
But I need to keep my gridning back to the Gym. The holidays are coming.. and well.. that adds some more hefferage to my wasiteline.. going to try to beat it, in advance.

This is a stupid thread. A poll? Useless because it doesn't measure anyone except the posters on this thread. That's NOT a representative cross-section of GW players. Therefore it's utterly meaningless.
Incidentally, my guild has tripled in size over the past 6 months. If you guys have failing membership, maybe they're just going to better guilds?

I would bet money that if figures were released they would show that the number of players logging onto the servers over the last month or so have started to fall. I would furthermore predict that this trend will continue, with the only upward blip in numbers occuring during the Wintersday 2007 event.
During the early part of 2008 player numbers will go into steep decline.

It doesn't most people only play this game because it has no monthly fee's and that is also the reason people have played it for so long.

There is a sort of continuous flowering and withering that goes on in guilds. Long-term players generally eventually settle in an arrangement that pleases them, so most guilds have to recruit new players. And a lot of those new players don't go on to become experienced players; they just get bored and leave.
There are players who stick around, and players who go and come back, but it takes awhile to stumble upon communities of them.

i only read the first pages and some of the second im not going to sift through 10 pages but a lot of the leaving is not only pve, but also the fact every form of PvP has been neglected and killed. HA = 10 parties looking for SWAY!

Its inevitable that people will move on to other things but as long as newer people join its fine and the game will continue.
Used to play GW excessivly by that I mean maybe 8 to 10 hours a day and sometimes 7 days a week.
Those days days are over I now play a range of other games, I still havn't done with gw just slowed the pace down a little.
Been to the underworld a few times, never visited the fow at all, done paractically no pvp.
But I have followed the storylines and tried out lots of build and skill combinations.
I was amused by all the people who finished the game in a week or less and seemed pleased with themselves, well hope you got your money's worth.
Did they never slow down and look around explore talk to players, their gw experience must be like those package tours "see Europe in 5 days" not for me i'm afraid.
Gwen is good maybe not so good for those who have the nack of beating the ai down to a fine art, for them I am sure it was just a walk in the park.
At least this game is always changing, I am a little annoyed when a particular exploit with skills I use disappears but then so what now I can look for another way to beat the game.
So its not the same game as when we started, but is that all bad, arn't we always delighted when something we ask for is fixed, should we be all that upset when someone else gets what they want.
Cannot help thinking there are a few wow players around here that love to rubbish gw maybe they hope we will all leave and join them, if so then welcome come see a good game for once lol
